Kashmir Premier League
Kashmir Premier League (KPL) is a Twenty20 cricket league founded and organized by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB). This league was founded in 2021 and its first edition will start on 6th August 2021. The final match of the Kashmir Premier League (KPL) will be played on the 17th of August 2021.
Initially, it was decided that KPL will be organized in May but due to Corona Pandemic, the official league of Pakistan, PSL was postponed. Considering this, it was decided that Kashmir Premier League (KPL) will be held in the month of August.
The main purpose of this league is to promote this game of gentlemen, Cricket, in Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK). In this league, you will see the local boys and young cricketers of Azad Kashmir in action.
The entire tournament will be held in Muzaffarabad, the capital city of Azad Kashmir. The Muzaffarabad Cricket Stadium has a capacity of 18,000 people which is good enough to host a tournament like KPL.

Kashmir Premier League Teams
Pakistan Super League started with 5 teams but the KPL will be organized with a total of 6 teams right from the 1st edition of KPL. Out of 6 Kashmir Premier League teams, 5 teams will represent different cities of Azad Kashmir.
One team will represent the overseas Kashmiris who are living in different countries. The names of the 6 KPL teams are listed below:
- Muzaffarabad Tigers: This KPL team will represent the capital city Muzaffarabad, of Azad Kashmir which is the largest city in AJK. Mohammad Hafeez is the captain of the Muzaffarabad Tigers.
- Rawalakot Hawks: Rawalakot is the capital city of the Ponch District of Azad Kashmir. Rawalakot Hawks will represent this city and it will get a lot of support as Shahid Afridi will lead this team. Remember that, Shahid Khan Afridi is also the brand ambassador of the Kashmir Premier League.
- Bagh Stallions: Bagh Stallions will represent the Bagh District of Azad Kashmir in KPL 2021. Shadab Khan will lead the team in the 1st edition of KPL.
- Mirpur Royals: One of the most senior T20 batsmen of Pakistan, Shoaib Malik will lead Mirpur Royals in KPL 2021. Thi steam is representing the 2nd largest city of Azad Kashmir, Mirpur which is also known as New Mirpur City. Another great thing about Mirpur Royals is that Inzamam ul Haq, the greatest batsman of Pakistan will be the coach of this team.
- Kotli Lions: Wicket-keeper batsman Kamran Akmal will lead Kotli Lions in the 1st edition of KPL. Kotli is the city and district of Azad Kashmir which is famous for its beauty and waterfalls. Allrounder Abdul Razaq will be the head coach of Kotli Lions.
- Overseas Warriors: As the name suggests, this team will represent those Kashmiris who migrated out of Kashmir and are living in other areas and countries. Imad Wasim will be the captain of the Overseas Warriors while Mushtaq Ahmad will be the coach.

Kashmir Premier League Final Match
The final match of the Kashmir Premier League 2021 will be played between the winner of Qualifier and the winner of Eliminator 2. It will be played on Tuesday, 17th August. Starting time of the final match of KPL is not yet decided.

Brand Ambassador of KPL
Kashmir Premier League (Khelo Azadi Se) is a cricket event that promotes peace. Shahid Afridi who is a well-known allrounder cricketer all around the world is the brand ambassador of the Kashmir Primer League.
International Players in KPL
International players of Pakistan will participate in the Kashmir Premier League. Whereas, only a few overseas players will participate in the Kashmir Premier League.
Tillekeratne Dilshan, Herschelle Gibbs, and Monty Panesar were few prominent names who agreed to participate in the league. Since Kashmir Premier League is a small T20 cricket league that represents only one part of Pakistan i.e Azad Kashmir so PCB didn’t contact many players from the rest of the world.
Due to political differences with India, the BCCI is against KPL and it tried its level best to ban this league from ICC. After failing in this attempt, now BCCI is pressurizing the foreign players. It is reported that BCCI has pressurized South African players not to participate in KPL otherwise he will not be allowed to enter India for any cricket event in any capacity.
Herschelle Gibbs has criticized India and BCCI for these cheap tactics as he is willing to play for KPL. He said that he has no interest in the political disputes about the Kashmir region between India and Pakistan. He just wanted to play cricket in any cricket league.

Whereas, the English player, Montey Panesar announced in a tweet that he will not play KPL as he changed his mind. He said that his participation will confuse him due to the Kashmir dispute between the two cricket-playing nations. But according to reports, he was also pressurized by the BCCI unofficially.
